American Immigration Lawyers Association (English and Spanish) has an easy way to search for lawyers by types of immigration law, language(s) spoken, and location. Lawyers listed are licensed, in good standing with a state bar association, and meet minimum requirements. The website’s research library has a wealth of handouts attorneys can share including If ICE Visits Your Home and Worksite Enforcement Actions: Employer Rights and Responsibilities. They are available in seven languages including Spanish.

Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) provides free resources and training materials for lawyers. With Pro Bono Net IAN operates a searchable National Immigration Legal Services Directory. A searchable online legal services directory is available in more than a dozen languages, including English and Spanish.

LawHelpNY.org (more than 30 languages, including Spanish and English) has a lawyer search and straightforward summaries on topics ranging from asylum to money and tax issues, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to working in the U.S.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has an online detainee locator (Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, Somali, and Vietnamese). It allows users to search for individuals 18 and over by their name, country, birthdate, or nine-digit A-number. Users may also search for case status details and get lists of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations field offices and detention facilities.

UnLocal Post Order Defense Team works with non-citizens who have a removal order and are (1) detained and don’t have a stay of removal, (2) are at risk of detention, or (3) have ICE check-ins and no pending appeals or applications. The Post Order Defense Team is part of New York’s Rapid Response Legal Collaborative, which also includes Make the Road New York, and the New York Legal Assistance Group.

Stay safe online

We Keep Us Safe: LGBTQ Digital Safety Guide: GLAAD‘s quick guide to helping LGBTQ people to be more safe online can be used by anyone. It is available in English and Spanish. It is about four pages long. GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law) has a three-page flyer with information and resources to help the LGBTQ community stay safe online and avoid harassment. It also can be used by anyone.

The American Bar Association’s Commission on Immigration coordinates with government and non-governmental groups to advocate for changes in law and governmental practice. They provide continuing education; timely information about trends, court decisions, and pertinent developments for members of the legal community; and encourage lawyers to provide free legal representation for individuals in immigration proceedings.
