This free virtual course — to be held on three Thursdays in February — aims to equip educators in PreK-2nd grade settings with tools and knowledge to better support our immigrant students and immigrant families. The module will encourage educators to examine their own stances and assumptions about immigration and adopt a strengths-based approach to working with students. Registration closes 11:59pm, Monday, January 26.
Grounded in the idea that our youngest students deserve meaningful instruction that centers their immigrant-origin identities, the course will offer strategies for creating welcoming and nurturing learning environments. Participants will explore a variety of readings, videos, and resources. All early childhood educators are encouraged to apply: teachers, social workers, paraprofessionals, school leaders, and others are welcome.
Instructor: Kellie Griffith Tanaka, CUNY-IIE Project Researcher. Dates: 6-8:30pm on three Thursdays, February 5, February 12, and February 26. Participants who attend all sessions and complete an additional 6.5 hours of asynchronous group and independent work will earn 15 Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credits.
