Sarah Rogerson, distinguished professor at Albany Law, was elected to the New York State Senate. She directs the school’s Immigration Law Clinic, which has received honorable mention from the Clinical Legal Education Association for Excellence in a Public Interest Case or Project for its role in the Detention Outreach Project.
The project, a collaboration with the New York Immigration Coalition and the Legal Project, was formed to provide triage, legal orientation, and representation to hundreds of asylum seekers and migrants who were transferred by federal authorities to upstate county correctional facilities in 2018.
Rogerson will represent Saratoga County, Niskayuna, and the City of Schenectady. She defeated a Republican who had served for nearly 50 years.
