Community members were pulled over near Hudson early in March. They were able to identify the vehicle based on Columbia Count Sanctuary Movement’s SALUTE training and materials. (Ulster Rapid Response also uses the SALTUE protocol.) In this critical moment, they protected themselves by knowing their rights. Here’s what they did:
- Recognized it wasn’t the police and refused to open the door.
- Held their drivers license to the window.
- Turned on the heat to fog the windows.
- Placed a phone outwards to record everything.
