Family & Household Support

This team helps with food, school supplies, household goods, furniture, and emergency financial aid. During the first phase of the pandemic, volunteers shopped and delivered food to approximately 150 families. At the end of  July, we opened twice-a-month “open air markets” where families picked up food, clothing, cleaning supplies, and other household items in Kingston and Saugerties.

Now that there’s a chill in the air, we’re transitioning to a more traditional food pantry where families pick up pre-packed grocery bags. The pantry is open Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. at Holy Cross/ Santa Cruz Episcopal Church, 30 Pine Grove Avenue, Kingston. Social distancing and other pandemic protocols will be in place.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Identify a source that might donate large quantities of cloth or paper bags. We will need about 200 each week.
  • Volunteer to help package and distribute food.
  • Donate gently used children’s clothing.

We occasionally post needed items on our Facebook page; please follow us. For additional information, contact Leslie Gallagher, 845-901-0215, lilacless2@yahoo.com.

Families in need of assistance may call UIDN’s helpline, 888-726-7276. If no one answers, leave your request and contact information on voice mail. A volunteer will get back to you within 24 hours. Helpline and office volunteers are bilingual English/Spanish. We do our best to help those who speak other languages.
