Thanks for your interest in volunteering with the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network. Below are ongoing needs. (If you’re ready to get started, please complete this form.) As of September 10, 2020, we have two urgent needs:

Helpline coordinator. Commitment: about one hour per week. Will train. Responsibilities: (1) oversee our cloud-based voice over internet (VOIP) phone system software, including troubleshooting and scheduling; (2) recruit and support volunteers; (3) keep volunteers up-to-date with the most current information and resources and share information from other teams.

Financial coordinator. Commitment: a few hours a month; 4-5 times a year there may be a week requiring 8-10 hours. Will train someone with strong background in accounting and financial reporting and planning. Responsibilities: (1) be aware of and monitor UIDN finances; (2) oversee bookkeeper and Quickbooks; (3) prepare budgets and financial reports for UIDN committees; (4) support others in drafting budgets for funding proposals and reporting on grants; (6) engage a CPA and oversee yearly federal and state tax reporting and audits as needed.

Household Support: Help with twice-weekly Kingston food pantries where families pick up pre-packed grocery bags. Donate or identify sources for  needed items and drop them off by prior arrangement. Get details here.

Writers Group: help tell UIDN’s story and the stories of local immigrants by writing for our newsletter or website. Bob Gelbach,, 203-376-8205.

Volunteer Recruitment: call prospective volunteers and help them select opportunities that match their skills, interests, and availability. Helaine Meisler,, 914-466-0100.

Fundraising: the team could use one or two additional members. Volunteers also are needed to write thank you notes or design flyers, digital media, and other materials to promote events and programs. Information Management

  • Track questions about available resources and services. Nic Abramson, 845-706-5500,
  • Record basic information about a household’s need for help with rent and utilities and determine how best to help. Patience with details and approximately one free hour are needed. Case management skills hugely welcome. Training provided. Elana Michelson, 845-658-9838,
  • Assist with our volunteer/donor management program, EveryAction. We need tech-savvy volunteers who know the program or are interested in learning its ins-and-outs. Bob Gelbach, 203-376-8205,

Volunteers who are fluent in both Spanish and English are needed.
