SUMMARY:Teaching at the Intersections of Immigration & Education
DESCRIPTION:This free webinar will introduce a new book  by Rachel Duff and Ariana Mangual Figueroa aimed at supporting higher education faculty who seek to integrate themes of immigration into  education courses. Participants will hear from CUNY-IIE Faculty Fellows who have redesigned their syllabi with immigration and education in mind. \nAlthough one in three K-12 students in New York State is of immigrant origin\, immigration is not a required topic for educator certification in the state. This guide provides faculty across educational content areas with materials to develop and enhance their coursework for pre-service and in-service educators\, ensuring they are better prepared to support immigrant-origin students. \nPanelists will include: Fumio Someki\, College of Staten Island\, CUNY; Imani Irving Perez\, Hunter College\, CUNY; René Antrop-González\, SUNY New Paltz; Robert Jackson\, NY State Senator\,  District 31; William Murphy\, Deputy Commissioner of Higher Education\, NYS Education Department. The books authors will moderate. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Author conversation\, Crossing the Line
DESCRIPTION:Amnesty International Mid-Hudson invites you to continue a conversation begun last year with Sarah Towle\, author of Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands. \nKen Burns called the book “Spectacular!” Adding\, “We all deserve a narrative with clarity\, and Towle has delivered.” \n\nSarah will make the case for voting this November and describe a nationwide campaign to divest from a detention-to-deportation pipeline hiding in many pension plans and retirement portfolios and benefiting no one except “demagogues and profiteers.” \nPizza will be served. Sarah’s books will be available for purchase and for signing. Seating is limited. Register here.

SUMMARY:We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next.
DESCRIPTION:We meet on the sidewalks of Woodstock Village Green\, Mill Road\, and Rock City Road. It is the same time as the Woodstock Film Festival so bring the smiles\, the costumes\, and be ready for Lights! Camera! Action! \nFor more than a year\, millions of people have come together to reject the idea that power belongs to kings\, billionaires\, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law. \nNow\, we are taking the next step\, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions\, No Kings: Vote Early\, is not purely a protest. Instead\, October 17 will be a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing our community together to make a plan to vote early and ensure every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard. \nNo Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.
