Helpline training

Since the spring, a UIDN team has been working steadily on setting up a helpline for people in need of support with immigration issues. With a launch date now approaching (watch here for announcement!), Emma Kreyche, Myrna Capaldi, and Matt Verrilli held a training for bilingual helpline volunteers on July 31. Volunteers were oriented to issues and needs that are likely to come up, and where to refer those calls for further support. The goal is to have helpline volunteers available for 24-hour coverage. If volunteers are unable to pick up a call during nighttime hours, callers will be able to leave a message and expect prompt follow up.

Once the helpline is activated, following a Rapid Response training in September, the UIDN will reach out to the community to make sure that people know about this
new resource.

A second training for bilingual volunteers will be held later in September for those who weren’t able to attend in July.
